Shahid, Priyanka on top in 2009

There weren't too many hits this year, but actors like Shahid Kapoor, Abhay Deol and Priyanka Chopra not only rose above the script but gave performances that towered above the rest.

Here is a list of 10 actors who made a mark in 2009:

Shahid Kapoor: It will be quite a predicament for the awards organisers as they will have to nominate Shahid Kapoor as 'Best Actor' and also 'Best Actor In A Negative Role' for "Kaminey"! The young actor came of age with the film.

Abhay Deol: Abhay Deol has finally carved an independent market for himself. The only hero in the industry today who is a non-conformist, he is getting good recognition.
This guy certainly knows that even without serenading heroines around trees or bashing 10 goons at a time, he can find an audience for himself.

Amitabh Bachchan: Time and again Amitabh Bachchan has proved that he is not going away. For someone who has been trapped in his own image for three decades, delivering a lovable and heart-warming performance as a child in "Paa" is a refreshing change.

Ranbir Kapoor: Ranbir Kapoor has really cleared the way for other star sons with a series of flawless acts.

Shah Rukh and Kajol on TV

The trailer of Karan Johar’s next, My Name is Khan will be out in 70 countries on TV on 16th December.

Star TV Network will showcase the first look of My Name is Khan at 10 pm across 70 countries worldwide.

The much anticipated film will hit the screen on February 12, 2010 and is produced by Karan Johar and SRK jointly.

Watch out for Kajol and of Shah Rukh who will reunite after 8 years in My Name is Khan after Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.

"It broke my heart" - Priyanka Chopra

What's Your Raashee? might have earned Priyanka Chopra a name in the Guinness Book of World Records for the 12 roles she played but not without a heartbreak. Now, she admitted that the failure of the film broke her heart.

Priyanka was hurt by the performance of What's Your Raashee? at the box office because she had put in lots of efforts and hard work in doing her 12 roles. She said that it would have been more painful had she not received appreciation for her performance.

It maybe recalled that Priyanka got lots of accolades for her role in the hit film Kaminey starring Shahid Kapoor and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. But her next film What's Your Raashee? directed by Ashutosh Gowariker with Harman Baweja as the hero, failed terribly at the box office in spite of the hype it enjoyed.

All for Paa

I have seen R. Balki’s Paa, which is smartly designed and written for Amitabh Bachchan who plays Auro, a 13-year-old boy suffering with a premature aging disease named Progeria.

He wishes to communicate that it is an uncommon disease and needs proper care and attention from parents as well as the society at large. It is also the story of Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan being lovers during their college years in London.

When Vidya gets pregnant, Abhishek, a politician’s son, is hesitant to be a father and they break-up. Vidya disappears and comes to her single mother (Arundhati Nag) and decides to bring up her child Auro at Lucknow.

Auro is a peculiar kid with a nasal voice, crooked teeth, gangly gait and bulging veins and looks alien. It is a simple story well told. You may cry but will also enjoy the sharp and witty dialogues.

"Sexy seductress? Who me?" - Neha Dhupia

As Neha gears up for her next film Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, where she is the central protagonist, she also reflects on De Dana Dan, one of the few successes that Bollywood has seen this year.

While the world believed that the film would primarily revolve around Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal due to the return of Hera Pheri team, surprisingly it was new addition Neha Dhupia who also managed to make heads turn.

Quite ironical since rather than being paired opposite Akshay Kumar or Suniel Shetty, she was hobnobbing with the likes of Paresh Rawal, Shakti Kapoor, Vikram Gokhale and Manoj Joshi.

Katrina Kaif turned down Salman Khan's offer

Juicy Mausi simply loves the alternate reality game her sweetie Aamir Khan is playing these days.

One day he was in Varanasi, and the next, he revealed himself in a Madhya Pradesh village called Chanderi where these pretty saris are made by hardworking weavers.

His 3 Idiots hottie Kareena Kapoor also accompanied him there, travelling 14 hours by road. And for that, our generous Aamir showed his gratitude by gifting her a lovely sari! Our Kapoor babe sure looks hot in one.

And mSalman Khan is well-known for his generosity but not many people know that his much-awaited forthcoming venture Veer was offered to his ladylove Katrina Kaif before it went to the kitty of newcomer Zarine Khan.
