A Patna High Court lawyer, Shruti Singh is suing Paa for violating The Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.This act empowers people with disability by giving them equal opportunity against all discrimination.
Paa is a film based on a 13 year old boy named Auro suffering from progeria. This is a disease which accelerates the process of aging. Amitabh Bachchan plays this character called Auro.
Lawyer Singh has accused Amitabh Bachchan of making fun of people with disabilities. The lawsuit has been filed against the director R. Balkrishna as well.
Paa is facing the axe as the Patna High Court lawyer says “I filed a case in the court demanding a probe into whether Paa violated the act or not”.
She wants “the authorities should act against the producer and actors of the film for making a joke of disabled people”.
The hearing is next week and we also will wait for it. Hope this is not a publicity stunt as done by most of the film makers. A negative publicity always does well for a movie or an actor in Bollywood.
Whether it does or not is unknown for sure, but our Bollywood stalwarts.
